UKCP Registered Psychotherapist & Counsellor

Private Therapy

Hello and welcome to my practice.
My name is Jai and I’m a UKCP registered psychotherapist. I run a private practice in central Dalston, North East London. I have previously worked as a psychotherapist for the NHS in both primary and secondary care.
You can phone me on: 0743 464 9794
Or email me at: jcrookshankgestalt@gmail.com
I offer a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space in which we can explore your needs and concerns. I work holistically and creatively, placing the therapeutic relationship at the heart of my practice. We will work together to explore the causes of your difficulties, make sense of your experiences, identify your resources and move towards your desired goals.
I am experienced in working with adults and young people and have worked with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds, supporting them with issues such including: depression, anxiety, anger, abuse, trauma, relationship issues and bereavement. I also work with issues such as panic attacks, low mood, problems with identity, and feelings of loneliness and low self-esteem.
What is my approach?
I work within a Gestalt approach to psychotherapy. Gestalt works in a relational and integrated way, paying careful attention to the whole of your experience, including your emotions, thoughts and physical sensations. A particular strength of Gestalt is its capacity to illuminate how past situations influence and impact your feelings and relationships in the present.
I believe that all behaviour is developed as a way to meet our needs. We do our best to survive difficult and painful experiences, making adjustments and adaptations to protect ourselves and keep ourselves going in response to these experiences. Working with an attitude of compassionate curiosity, your awareness will grow of how your experiences have impacted you and the ways you have developed to respond to these experiences. In so doing, the aim will be to carefully restore your capacity for satisfaction and wellbeing.
We learn about ourselves through our relationships with other people. However, these relationships may go awry, sometimes leaving us feeling hurt, confused and finding our capacity to manage in life is disrupted. Therapy can provide a healing relationship in which we learn to understand ourselves and our relationships with others. Our work together will support you in growth and exploration of new possibilities through empathy, self-awareness and self-acceptance.
Within the therapeutic relationship, you can begin to heal painful feelings and experiences; develop your coping strategies to manage current challenges in your life; deepen awareness of your self and enjoy more satisfying relationships in the present.

What will therapy be like with me?
Beginning therapy can feel daunting. Our initial session provides us with an opportunity to begin to get to know each other – your feeling comfortable and able to work with me is very important. Together we will explore what brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain. This helps us come to a shared understanding of what we will focus on and what we will prioritise. You might have a really clear idea of what you want from therapy, or you might not feel so sure – perhaps something doesn’t feel right in your life and you want space to explore what that might be.
I offer weekly individual psychotherapy counselling sessions lasting 50 minutes.
If you are interested in discussing your needs or booking in for an initial meeting please get in touch using the contact details at the top of this page or using the contact form on this website. I aim to answer enquiries within 24 hours. All communications between us are confidential. I hold full professional insurance and abide by the ethical principles of UKCP.
